One of my biggest vices last year as a freshman was beer. Add to it late night pizza runs, and I gained weight too. This is a great book--I found a lot of useful tips in it. I am using some of the advice this year. I also purchased "The Doctor's College Girls Health Guide," by Dr. Jennifer Wider. These 2 books together have really helped me from a nutrition and health standpoint.

This year I made it my goal to loose weight and get healthy, which I did! I lost 30 pounds and gained a whole new perspective on life. I just finished reading the dorm room diet and it not only reinforced everything I learned this year but also taught me a lot of new tips and tricks, and explained why so many foods are horribly unhealthy. There really is a lot of information out there on health and nutrition, but so much of it is just a maze to more questions and complications, this book really clarifies all of that. When I go off to college I will definitely be bringing this book with me and probably a few copies for my friends.

"Dorm Room Diet" is a beautiful and invaluable gift for my stressful life. I felt really motivated by your words. Thank you for your beautiful talent and I can't wait for your next book.

When I first started college, I was a waitress at Coney Island. I was very busy with work and school and I ate at my job every day because I was able to eat for free. Because of my stress level and the unhealthy eating habits I acquired, I gained 20 pounds in only a few months. I realized that this wasn’t good for my body and decided to join a gym. Two months into working out and cutting out the greasy fries and soda, I was back to my healthy weight and maintained it that way since.

I am a junior at The University of Akron; I have lupus and renal failure, which puts me on a strict diet. No salt, low potassim,& low phosphorous. Well, at college that's all there is to eat:pizza, sodas,& anything else that can be delivered at 2am. All full of potassium, salt,& phosporous. Thus I picked up this book to improve my life in my dorm.

I'm graduating from HS this year and am already struggling with my weight. I'm not overweight, just not as skinny as I was. My problem is really just that i'm a couch potato. I'm terrified of going to university and gaining any amount of poundage! I've tried so much to lose, including starving myself. But I've decided to invest in your book. It sounds perfect! Thank you so much for writing this book, and I'll let you know how I'm doing next year! ;D

I was so overweight, i didn't know what to do. I went to college and I gained even more weight. I found your site and you inspired me beyond belief! Thank you so much for the inspirational words of wisdom, Daphne.

I am a junior in high school who has been unsatisfied with my weight for years. A year ago, I took up running as a sport and began to research nutrition in my spare time. It was not until this school year, when I transferred to a boarding school and read your book that I was able to lose weight healthily and keep it off. In the past two months, I have lost 15 pounds thanks to your prudent advice and my sport: cross-country. I never feel faint of hungry during class in the way that I used to. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

"This book really gives a voice to the battle with weight gain as a college student. It's helping me to put food back in its place as energy fuel. I've always had issues with emotional eating. Your steps have really helped me get back into control. I just wanted to say thanks!"

"This book is the best book I bought for college. I read this more than some of my textbooks. I have been following your diet guidlines and I've been excersising more. I have seen some postive results and it's just the first month! Based on this book I have also been taking a multi-vitamin, and omega-3. By taking vitamins daily I have started my parents and younger sister on a vitamin regime. Now my mother is finally taking her calcium and vitamin D! I love this book and all its nifty facts. I really appreciate this book for what it has taught me. I'm now a member of the food service commitee at my college, and hopefully I'll bring some healthier foods to the cafeteria. Thanks for writing this book!"

"Though I'm no longer a college student, and have not been for 4 years, I was intrigued by the Dorm Room Diet and bought it on a whim while shopping at a Wal-Mart in Beaumont, TX. I read the entire book in less than a day.
I have always had trouble with my weight, since I was a young girl. I ended up at 185 lbs at 5'4 my freshman year of high school and decided to go on a low-fat diet. I was able to lose 35 lbs by my senior year and join the cross country team. However, I found over the years that low-fat was extremely hard to keep up. Little by little, though I kept up with running and off-and-on-weight lifting, I gained weight. Once I "let" myself eat sugar-laden and simple carb items it was depressingly easy to put on weight.
Recently, I have been trying to eat healty and discover through extensive and generally ineffective and contradictory reading what I needed to do to lose 25 lbs.
Although I am currently 160 lbs at (still, curiously enough) 5'4, I have increased my weight training regimen and have had to quit running (or suffer a collapsed knee) so I wear size 10 non-stretchy jeans. It's all the more frustrating then that I can't seem to get rid of the pudge hiding my hard work.
The Dorm Room Diet is one of the best books on long-term diet I have ever read. I live a lifestyle that is in a lot of ways similar to a college student's, as I travel continuously and live in hotels for months at a time.
I wanted to thank you for going through all the headaches of getting this book published; for the first time in years, I feel confident that I can succeed in my fitness goals."

"College is so much about snacking, especially between classes! I always ended up at the local quickie mart to grab a donut, chocolate bar or chips...which usually made me more hungry!! This book is great, you have to plan ahead to make your snacks, but I'm going to do it cause I want to look HOT for all those cute college guys!!!"
Ann Elkins, Ellensburg,WA
"I'm a 4th year student in Nutrition. This year I will be doing Peer Counseling in diet and your book gave me some wonderful ideas. I don't live in the dorms, so your suggestions really help."
Jolene Whittaker, Warner Robins, GA
"I saw you on Fox and Friends..love that show. I looked your book up on the web...very impressive. I am 53 and not in school living in a dorm. I have always tried to eat healthy and even though I am not of your generation I am interested the natural ways of doing things and I liked what I read and will follow it. I need to lose about 15 pounds. Seems like it is harder to lose weight at my age and I have been looking for something new."

"Through freshman and sophomore years, I was essentially bored and unhappy at school all the time. The dining hall food was horrible - nothing like my mother's fresh and flavorful cooking - and I suppose I compensated by eating more Belgian waffles, three-cheese omelets, and chicken strips in the dining hall (they were the only things that were good). All in all, I gained 20 or 30 pounds. It was horrible. While no one actually commented on my weight, and most people told me I looked the same, I felt incredibly bloated and fat all the time. Finally, when I moved out of the dorms, and into my own apartment, I started eating foods that were healthy and enjoyable. In three months, I lost all that weight and then some (I reached my weight at 14 years old!), and I feel healthy, finally."
Robbyn Morris, Louisiana, MO
"SO looking forward to getting your great book, lots of copies in fact, to not only read myself but hand out to all the gazillions of college students I know! It sounds fantastic! (I'm a Middle School/High School teacher)"
Danny Shea, Princeton, NJ
I used to be fat, but then I read the dorm room diet and worked out a ton, and now I look hot like Daphne!
Samantha, Chicago, IL
"Okay, so I just got this book a few days ago and I love it. It really motivated me a lot more and made me look at myself and my eating habits in a different way. SO now at least the pounds are slowly coming off. They'll be off in no time."
Yvonne, Boston, MA
"OK, so the student store near the dorms on my campus plotted against me all last year! Sure, the dining hall had fruit and a salad bar mixed in with all the donuts and pasta, but that closes at 8!! Nope, when I got the midnight munchies it was off to the student store (suspiciously open until 1 am), to load up on ice cream and chips and those big bags of caramel corn. Oooooh.. yummm. So, obviously, I gained 8 pounds my freshman year, and with a whole new school year starting, I know I've got to get rid of them. New plan -- I'm walking to the real grocery store off campus every few days to stock up fruit and rice cakes and stuff from now on. I could use the exercise."
Mary, Hacienda Heights, CA
"It's not like I'm not active, I work out all the time. But I also get really tired really easily. I wonder if just a few adjustments in what I'm eating, or maybe some supplements, can help me out."
Melissa, Ann Arbor, MI
"When I first got to school, my friends and I went out until the parties ended, and picked up food on our way back to the dorms, almost every night of the weekend. My mini-fridge was filled with leftovers all the time, so when I was like reading or cramming, I just ate whatever was in there. It was hard not to gain weight as a freshman cuz before I was so used to my parents doing the grocery shopping- not me! I'm a sophomore now, and I'm eighteen pounds heavier than I was when I graduated high school! It's time to turn things around cuz it's not just gonna happen. I'm not one to count calories or anything like that, but the tips in Dorm Room Diet look really easy to follow. I hope it works!"
Heidi, Connecticut
"ben & jerrys. that's my vice.. phish food in particular. can I still have ice cream on this diet?"
